Becky M. from client to successful executive in Fullerton, California

Candidly describing herself as "quite a handful" when she was a teen, Becky was one of four children raised by a single mother. Abused by her brother, she acted out her fear and anger and was ultimately removed from her home. She became a "system kid", eventually winding up at Crittenton Services in 1992.

Young, angry, frightened, and the parent of a two-year-old son, Becky felt her childhood was over. She had less than two years to prepare herself and her son for the future. She would need to graduate high school, develop the ability to support herself and her son, learn to parent, and obtain a host of other life skills rarely thought about by the average teenager.

But Becky was not an average teenager. She threw herself into her schoolwork, mastered the skills she needed and by 1993 graduated from high school. She was recognized by the Guardian Scholars Program at California State University, Fullerton, where she was awarded a scholarship and eventually graduated. While at CSU she caught the attention of the executive development program of a Fortune 500 Global company. Becky was hired as an intern and then as a full-time executive trainee upon graduation

Today, Becky holds an executive position with the same company that recognized her potential all those years ago. She has a wonderful son, is happy with herself, and has a rewarding life. Although she has two full time jobs as mother and businesswoman, she has always been an advocate for children in the foster care system, serving on various boards and committees, including a term on the Crittenton Board. Crittenton Services is proud to have been a part of her life—we provided help and guidance on the way, but the achievements are all hers.
