Celebrating 125 years...

2008 marks the 125th anniversary of the opening of The Florence Night Mission in New York City on April 19, 1883 which was the beginning of the Crittenton Social Welfare movement. Our year of commemoration began on April 18th in Washington, DC with a Congressional breakfast that drew 130 people including dozens of staff, supporters and Senators Richard Burr (R-NC) and Jay Rockefeller (D-WVA). A gala evening event for 200 guests at the Mayflower Hotel put the spotlight on longtime volunteers, former clients who have forged new paths in life and a corporate video for use by agencies in the Crittenton family. Guest speakers and presenters included Dr. Lorraine Cole, President/CEO of the YWCA USA, Dr. Gail Christopher, Vice President for Programs at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Ms. Sara K. Gould, President and CEO of the Ms. Foundation for Women and Ms. Amy Hall, Director of Social Consciousness for Eileen Fisher Inc. Former clients Ms. Rebecca McGraw and Ms. Charese Jamison gave moving testimony about their life journeys and what they had learned at the Crittenton agencies in Fullerton, California and Wheeling, West Virginia.

In honor of the 125th anniversary a congratulatory statement was read by Representative Mel Watt from North Carolina on the floor of the House of Representatives. See video/read more
