Charese: A success story

ChareseHello, my name is Charese Jamison. You might have read about my life in past letters from The Foundation. My early life was a lot like that of Precious. I survived a lot of experiences like those depicted in the movie, things most people can’t imagine. Things like incest, sexual abuse and a mother who was absent more than present and much more. I too felt stupid, unloved and unworthy.

I became pregnant at 16 and was scared and alone. But a teacher helped me find my way to Crittenton Services Inc. in Wheeling, West Virginia and today, I’m thriving and so is my 15-year old daughter. I have a great job, an amazing daughter and this summer I’ll graduate from college. I’m happy, love life and see a bright future ahead for my daughter and I.

I’m here to tell you that there really are thousands of young women like me who share experiences similar to Precious. Don’t write off the movie as just a Hollywood production and walk away. Don’t let young women like me remain invisible because we deserve a chance to succeed and to give back. But we can’t do it alone. We need support to heal, to develop skills and to learn to believe in ourselves. You can help by contributing today. If what you have is $5 then give that…if you have more give more but give something today.

I broke the cycles of abuse and poverty in my family–and I couldn’t have done this without the support I received from Crittenton. I’m asking you to help ensure that Crittenton is around forever to support other young women like me.

Thanks in advance for your support! :)
Charese
